June marks the return of one of the Algarve’s most beloved cultural events — the Santos Populares (Popular Saints) in Quarteira, celebrating Saint Anthony, Saint John, and Saint Peter with colourful parades, lively music, traditional food, and festive spirit.
📅 Main Dates
On June 12th, 23rd and 28th, starting at 9 PM, the famous Marchas Populares (popular parades) will take place along the iconic Passeio das Dunas. Expect dazzling costumes, choreographed dances, and lyrics that pay tribute to the spirit and heritage of Quarteira’s neighbourhoods.
In addition, lively street parties (arraiais) will light up the town:
Rua Vasco da Gama (June 6 & 7) with performances by Roberto Bernardino and Hélder Pires
Rua da Alegria (June 9) with Fábio Emanuel
Plus music, dancing, grilled sardines and traditional caldo-verde in streets like Cabine, Gaivota, Fonte, and Madrugada.
🌿 Basil Pots & Love Notes
Charming manjericos (basil pots) decorated with paper carnations and sweet poems will be on sale on June 12, 18, and 25 at the Largo do Centro Autárquico (9:30 AM to 1:00 PM). Proceeds will support local charities.
🎯 Culture, Community & Celebration
Organised by APROMAR, with support from the Municipality of Loulé and Quarteira Parish Council, this event keeps a centuries-old fishing village tradition alive. It draws thousands of locals and tourists every year, celebrating culture, community, and summer by the sea.
