Faro's new-look terminal

Faro's new-look terminal

Commemorating its 50th birthday, Faro Airport in Portugal, operated by ANA, marked the occasion by unveiling ambitious plans to expand and remodel its passenger terminal.

The €33 million project will increase the size of the complex from about 82,000sqm to about 93,000sqm. This massive revamp is expected to boost the airport’s capacity by speeding up passenger processing times in the terminal that will allow for a much quicker aircraft turnarounds and subsequently more daily aircraft movements.

ANA is predicting that after the new and greatly improved terminal opens in March 2017, Faro Airport will be able to process about 30% more passengers per hour to about 3.000 as compared to 2,300 today and accommodate up to 30 runway movements hourly compared to 20 per hour today.

Works have already started in October and a modern new feel and look image is also the objective of this expansion plan for the passenger terminal that handles primarily leisure traffic for the huge amount of tourist that fly to the Algarve every year.
New and bigger car parks, access roads, kerbsides and landscape developments are also planned in this ambitious project.

Faro's Airport is the international gateway to the Algarve, Portugal and is becoming better equipped, more user friendly and above all very beautiful.
